Xenotes: four cenotes and an active day in the jungle

Four settings, several ways to explore the water

Xenotes brings cavern, ancient, open and semi-open cenotes together in one guided outing. The variety matters: enclosed rock formations create a different setting from pools surrounded by daylight and jungle vegetation. The activities change with those settings, combining an assisted descent, a kayak outing, swimming, zip lines and jumps rather than repeating the same swim at every stop.

This tour suits travelers who want an active day away from their hotel with the logistics already arranged. Round-trip transportation, a certified guide and the listed equipment are part of the experience. There is no need to organize a separate transfer and admission for each cenote. Before choosing the tour, however, check the participation rules for everyone in your party. Meeting the minimum admission age does not automatically qualify a visitor for every activity.

Activities and equipment

The program includes assisted rappelling into a cavern cenote, kayaking and aquatic exploration in a semi-open cenote, plus zip lines and jumps in open and ancient cenote settings. The operator may adjust the sequence and logistics. Treat this as a description of the experience rather than a fixed timetable, and follow your guide's directions during the visit.

Included equipment covers a life jacket, mask, rappelling equipment, kayak and inner tube. Life jackets must be worn for all water activities, including by confident swimmers. Restrooms, changing facilities and a towel are provided. Bring water shoes, swimwear and dry clothes for the return journey so that moving between water activities and land sections is more comfortable.

What the picnic includes

After the first cenote, the refreshments include seasonal fruit, water, soft drinks, coffee and chocolate champurrado. The later picnic offers julienne soup, cold meats, cheeses, breads, dressings and salads for assembling your meal, together with water, wine and beer. This is not an à la carte restaurant service. If you have a dietary requirement, check whether it can be accommodated before booking rather than assuming that every alternative will be available.

Photos and souvenirs are separate purchases. Bring a card or cash if you would like to buy them. When comparing options, compare the complete package: a guided tour with round-trip transportation is not equivalent to an admission ticket that requires you to arrange your own arrival. Review the inclusions and any separately payable items shown for your selected option.

Children and activity-specific restrictions

Participants must be at least 6 years old. The child category covers ages 6 through 11, and proof of age is required. A child under 12 who is taller than 1.40 m must also carry identification demonstrating their age. Do not select a price category solely from a visitor's height or assume that every teenager traveling with family qualifies for the child rate.

The zip lines require a minimum height of 1.40 m and a minimum weight of 40 kg. These conditions are separate from the tour's minimum age. A younger traveler may be old enough to join the outing without meeting the requirements for this particular activity. Check both levels of restriction before purchasing; participation in every exercise should not be promised to the whole group.

The operator does not recommend this experience for people with heart, lung or spinal conditions, asthma, diabetes or hypertension, or for visitors who are pregnant or may be pregnant. These are supplier participation guidelines, not an individual medical assessment. Clarify suitability before booking if any apply. Some access paths are unpaved, so do not assume that every part of the route is accessible for every mobility need.

Planning your pickup and return

The reviewed fact sheet lists Monday-to-Saturday operation and a transportation window between 08:00 and 10:00. This window is not your individual pickup appointment. Your confirmed time depends on the hotel or meeting point selected for the booking. Check both the place and time on your instructions, carry identification, and plan breakfast around that confirmed appointment.

The return journey also depends on your accommodation and the day's logistics. Leave enough time before another activity and avoid committing to a tight evening appointment until your transportation arrangements are clear. We do not present one universal hotel return time because the supplier information does not establish one.

Preparing for a day in the cenotes

Pack comfortable clothing for a wet environment, swimwear, water shoes and a change of clothes. Avoid makeup, perfume and chemical repellents that could affect the cenote ecosystem; visitors are asked to shower before entering the first cenote. Sun-care products must meet the operator's requirements. The fact sheet specifies titanium oxide and zinc oxide ingredients; check the composition of your product if you are unsure.

Stay on marked paths and leave wildlife undisturbed. Do not approach animals to touch or feed them. This is their natural environment, and following the route helps protect it while reducing avoidable encounters. Keep belongings suitable for the activity and follow the guide's instructions concerning equipment and cameras.

Changing or cancelling a booking

The reviewed supplier terms apply a 10% administration charge to cancellations made more than two days before the original arrival date. Cancellations within two days of arrival and no-shows are not refundable. Moving a visit may change its price, and a date change cannot be requested on the visit day itself. Read the terms attached to your chosen date and option before paying; another tour's general cancellation policy must not replace them.

Is Xenotes the right choice for your group?

Choose it when your group enjoys an active mix of water, movement and natural scenery, and when everyone meets the relevant participation requirements. If the priority is a quiet beach day, restaurant choice or a largely unstructured visit, compare other experiences first. The value here is the guided route and the different ways to experience the cenotes. Select your date, confirm the participants and review pickup arrangements before continuing with the reservation.

What should you check in your booking summary?

Make sure the visit date, participant categories and pickup location match your plans. Keep the confirmed instructions available for the morning of the tour. If you change hotels after booking, request an update rather than assuming that the original pickup still applies.
